sarpa-satre samiddhāgnau

dahyamānān mahoragān

dṛṣṭvendraḿ bhaya-saḿvignas

takṣakaḥ śaraṇaḿ yayau

SYNONYMS

sarpa-satrein the snake sacrifice; samiddha — blazing; agnauin the fire; dahyamānān — being burned; mahā-uragān — the great serpents; dṛṣṭvā — seeing; indramto Indra; bhaya — with fear; saḿvignaḥ — very disturbed; takṣakaḥTakṣaka; śaraṇam — for shelter; yayau — went.

TRANSLATION

When Takṣaka saw even the most powerful serpents being burned in the blazing fire of that snake sacrifice, he was overwhelmed with fear and approached Lord Indra for shelter.
