śrī-śuka uvāca

sa ikṣvāku-kule jāto

māndhātṛ-tanayo mahān

mucukunda iti khyāto

brahmaṇyaḥ satya-sańgaraḥ

SYNONYMS

śrī-śukaḥ uvācaŚukadeva Gosvāmī said; saḥhe; ikṣvāku-kulein the dynasty of Ikṣvāku (grandson of Vivasvān, the sun-god); jātaḥ — born; māndhātṛ-tanayaḥ — the son of King Māndhātā; mahān — the great personality; mucukundaḥ iti khyātaḥ — known as Mucukunda; brahmaṇyaḥ — devoted to the brāhmaṇas; satya — true to his vow; sańgaraḥin battle.

TRANSLATION

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Mucukunda was the name of this great personality, who was born in the Ikṣvāku dynasty as the son of Māndhātā. He was devoted to brahminical culture and always true to his vow in battle.
